3 October: Mercury Enters Scorpio

Mercury enters Scorpio on 3 October.

Mercury describes communication, information and the way ideas are examined. Scorpio is a fixed water sign traditionally ruled by Mars. It prefers to investigate rather than accept the first explanation it is given.

Mercury in Scorpio therefore brings a more concentrated style of thinking. Details that were previously overlooked can become important. Conversations can become more direct, particularly when trust, money or private information is involved.

This transit lasts longer than a straightforward Mercury passage because Mercury turns retrograde later in the month.

3 October: Venus Turns Retrograde in Scorpio

Venus is connected with relationships, attraction and values. It also has an important association with money. When Venus is retrograde, traditional astrology treats these areas as being under review rather than moving forward in their usual way.

In Scorpio, that review goes deeper. Questions surrounding trust or commitment can return. Financial arrangements involving another person can also need another look.

4 October: Mars Opposite Pluto

Mars represents action, determination and the drive to push ahead, while Pluto is associated with power and deeper change. Libra is concerned with cooperation, agreements and the way two sides work together.

17 October: Pluto Turns Direct in Aquarius

Pluto is a very slow-moving planet, so its station does not produce the kind of rapid change associated with Mercury or Mars. Its importance comes from the longer cycle.

Pluto entered Aquarius as part of a major generational transit. Its retrograde phase has taken it back over territory already covered. The direct station marks another change of direction, after which Pluto begins moving forward through Aquarius again.

In traditional modern astrological interpretation, Pluto is associated with power and deep structural change. Aquarius connects those themes with groups, collective systems and the structures through which people organise themselves.

The effects unfold over years rather than days. The 17 October station is a turning point within that much larger process.

25 October: Mercury Turns Retrograde in Scorpio

26 October: Sun Enters Scorpio

The Sun enters Scorpio on 26 October, beginning Scorpio season.

26 October: Full Moon in Taurus

The Full Moon falls in Taurus on 26 October, with the Moon reaching 100 percent illumination after entering Taurus that day. The Sun has entered Scorpio, placing the Full Moon across the Taurus-Scorpio axis.

Taurus and Scorpio are opposite fixed signs. Taurus is traditionally ruled by Venus and is concerned with what can be maintained, owned and relied upon. Scorpio deals more closely with shared resources and what has to change when existing arrangements no longer work.

That makes money and resources an obvious theme of this Full Moon.

The distinction between what belongs to one person and what is shared can become important. A financial arrangement can reach a point where a clear decision is required.

Venus, the ruler of Taurus, is retrograde in Libra at the time. Once again, the month's lunar activity connects directly with the Venus retrograde. Questions of value that began earlier in October can become much clearer around this Full Moon.

October begins with Saturn retrograde in Aries, Uranus retrograde in Gemini, Neptune retrograde in Aries and Pluto retrograde in Aquarius. Venus joins them when it turns retrograde on 3 October.

Pluto turns direct on 17 October, but Mercury then turns retrograde on 25 October. By late October, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are all retrograde.

Not every retrograde means the same thing. Mercury retrograde operates over weeks and is closely connected with communication and information. Venus retrograde brings relationships and values back under examination. The outer-planet retrogrades belong to much longer cycles and should be interpreted on that scale.

Treating every retrograde as a general warning misses those differences.
