Halloween Astrology 2026 October 31st

Halloween 2026 on October 31st, always falls in Scorpio season and this year is under a Cancer Moon. There could hardly be a more suitable astrological setting for the strangest night of the year. Scorpio is drawn to the mysterious and will go where others fear to tread, while the Moon in Cancer brings memories, home and past experiences closer to the surface. Adding to the spooky atmosphere, Mercury is retrograde in Scorpio, making this a night when old stories of unfinished business and things that go bump in the night suddenly return to our thoughts.

The Sun in Scorpio gives Halloween its darker edge. Scorpio has a deep curiosity and is rarely satisfied with what can be seen on the surface. It wants to know what is hidden underneath. On most days this can make us more observant and determined to discover the truth. On Halloween night it can make every shadow look slightly darker and every unexplained noise a little more interesting. There is nothing wrong with being curious, but Scorpio also reminds us that sometimes there are things we might wish we had left alone.

Mercury retrograde in Scorpio adds another twist to the story. Mercury is The Messenger of The Gods and represents our thoughts and communication. In Scorpio it becomes highly intuitive, persistent and focused. It can see through dishonesty and is good at solving mysteries. While retrograde it can also take us back over old conversations and information we thought had already been dealt with. If an old name suddenly appears in your thoughts this Halloween, or you find yourself remembering something you have not thought about for years, Mercury could have something to do with it.

Imagine finding an old photograph at the back of a drawer. You recognise everyone in it except one person standing quietly in the background. Nobody remembers who they are. You put the photograph back where you found it, but later curiosity gets the better of you and you take another look. This is where Scorpio becomes interested. There is a mystery and Scorpio does not like leaving a mystery unsolved. Mercury retrograde wants to go backwards and look again. Before long you are asking questions about something everyone else had forgotten.

The Moon in Cancer makes the story even more interesting. The Moon is associated with unconscious thoughts, memories, moods, home and past experiences. Cancer needs a strong feeling of security and is closely connected with family and those we care about. On Halloween night the Moon can therefore turn our attention towards people and places from our own past. An old family story suddenly seems more important. A house we knew as a child can appear clearly in our thoughts. Something forgotten can become familiar again.

There is also Mars in Leo on Halloween 2026. Mars represents confidence, energy and the willingness to take action. In Leo it is dramatic and expressive and often possesses great confidence. If everyone else is standing at the bottom of the dark staircase wondering what made that strange noise, Mars in Leo is more likely to want to find out. This is brave, but Mars can also be impulsive. Sometimes there is a very good reason nobody else volunteered to go first.

Venus is retrograde in Libra at the same time. Venus represents affection, harmony and relationships, while Libra seeks balance and peace. A Venus retrograde can bring old feelings and relationships back into our thoughts. Halloween is therefore not only about imaginary ghosts. There can also be ghosts from our own past. Someone we once knew can suddenly contact us. An old photograph can bring back feelings we thought had disappeared. A memory can remind us how different our life once was.

The Cancer Moon tells us not all memories have to be frightening. Halloween has always been connected with the past and with those who came before us. Behind the costumes, pumpkins and ghost stories there is an older idea of remembering the dead. Under a Cancer Moon that part of Halloween can feel particularly appropriate. Family history and the people who helped make us who we are can become more important than anything hiding in the shadows.

As midnight approaches Halloween begins to give way to another day. Sunday November 1st is All Saints Day, traditionally a day associated with remembering saints and those who have died. The Moon remains in Cancer before moving into Leo later on November 1st, continuing the connection with memory, family and the past.

After all the ghosts have disappeared and the Halloween decorations are put away, there can therefore be a quieter ending to the story. The people we remember from our past do not have to return as ghosts to remain part of our lives. Sometimes a photograph, a familiar place or a story told by someone in the family is enough to bring them back into our thoughts. On Halloween night 2026, with the Sun in Scorpio and the Moon in Cancer, the past might seem just that little bit closer than usual.
